Worried about Bullying?

"Wrong is wrong, even if everyone is doing it. Right is right, even if no one is doing it." — St. Augustine

Every child deserves to feel safe and happy at school. We are all unique, and those differences are what make our school a special place to learn. At our school, we choose to be "Upstanders"—people who use their Power for Good to stand up for others and speak out against unkindness.
What is Bullying?
Bullying is not just a one-time mistake or an accident. It is unkind behaviour that happens on purpose and keeps happening over and over again. It can happen face-to-face or online (cyberbullying).
  • Physical: Hitting, pushing, or damaging someone's things.
  • Verbal: Name-calling, mean teasing, or threatening.
  • Social: Leaving someone out on purpose or spreading rumours.
  • Cyber: Sending mean messages or sharing embarrassing photos online.
How to be an "Upstander"
If you see someone being treated unkindly, you can help by using the 4 Ds:
  1. Direct: If it’s safe, tell the person to stop in a firm, calm voice.
  2. Distract: Start a new conversation or ask the person being bullied to come and play a different game with you.
  3. Delegate: Find a teacher, a lunchtime supervisor, or another adult to help.
  4. Delay: If you can’t help right then, check in with the person later to ask, "Are you okay?"

Where to Get Help
If you are worried about bullying, tell a trusted adult like a parent, teacher, or school counsellor. It is not "tattling" to report bullying; it is making sure everyone stays safe.
